Our two boys are so much more for us than just “show-dogs“. The most important thing is that Shadow & Zabor are absolutely integrated into our family. They love being under humans, that’s why Shadow & Zabor are living with us in our house.

They are a fine playing-companion but most of all, they are true friends and comrades for our kids.

Many pets live with us and so Shadow & Zabor are used to cats, rabbits and such as that. They just love every animal and especially our cats love them.

Once in a while because of the many shows we put him in, we allow a change of pace.

And what change of pace is nicer for a Newfoundland other than swimming?

The Austrian Newfoundland Club (ÖNK) offers “waterwork” three or four times a year where you can try to teach your dog a variety of tricks, though in a playful kind of way. It tries to motivate the dog and do as much as possible without stressing them.

A taste of the real water-rescue. Yes, that’s just it for Shadow & Zabor and us.

Besides that we spend a lot of the summertime at the beautiful Atterlake in upper Austria. There we have our own place at the beach with a little “Lake-hut”.

The perfect place to relax for both human and animal and even the hottest days became very comfortable for a Newfoundland again. We also go to a training ground with Shadow & Zabor and they love the work and to be with other dogs who train there.

It is very nice if even Newfoundlands have “basic training” or the necessary respect. Even if the Newfi has his own will this training is possible.

Sometimes the kids train with Shadow for “junior handling”- we like that very much because it proves once again that this huge breed is absolutely no problem for kids and that they get along just fine with a Newfoundland.

We are very proud of our children because if they keep up the good work, then there will be new “Exhibitionists” (Handlers) for the future. They have won a lot of trophies with Shadow already and most important of all: one can see that they are a good team in the arena.
